The interest in do it yourself at home gardening is on the rise. Organic gardening in particular is gaining a strong foot hold in the main stream of society. The latest contributing factor to of course being the rise in food prices at supermarkets around the world. More organic farms are starting to see their local neighbors coming directly to them for their produce, completely by-passing the supermarkets all together.
There is a growing movement in local neighborhoods to go to the local farm stand for their produce. Many farms are now capitalizing on this by offering delivery services to a certain mile radius to the their farm. Many farms have seen their little farm stands generate a great deal more income in the last few years. Especially with recent food poisoning scares that have been making the news.
Home grown gardening has also seen a major spike in popularity, especially in just the last five years. Many people are turning to their backyards to produce their own organically grown vegetables and fruits. Even families that do not have the yard space for a garden are finding hanging plants and hydroponic gardening to be a viable alternative to going to the supermarket.
With all the interest that is being generated for the do it yourself crowd and growing your own gardens. There are some things to look out for if your are just starting out. Gardening is a slow but very rewarding process. When beginning your first garden look into growing things that you know you like to eat. Start small with one or two items to see if you even like the process of gardening. Also find ways to cut corners on cost as geting a garden up and running especially an organic garden is not the cheapest when you are starting out.
