More People Seeking Horticulture Skills

Do you have an interest in learning more about gardening resources or horticulture in general? With the future of our economy in such turmoil people are looking more than ever for alternative ways to not only make money but to save money and learning more about horticulture has become a bigger priority for people in the last few years. People are not only looking to horticulture as an alternative career path now a days but many people are looking to learn all they can to start saving money and start growing their own food supply in their very own back yards.

If that sounds like you and you are fed up with the rising prices of food and the questionable resources and chemicals that are food is being exposed to. You are not alone! Do it yourself gardeners are popping up all over and no matter your reasons for wanting to know more now is the time of year to do so.

Wisley Botanic GardensThe winter time is the best time of year to sign up for horticulture classes either at your local community college or even your local home depot or garden center. The winter time is the slow season for gardeners so you will find more of them giving classes  because their knowledge is in higher demand now than ever before.

I know that I can think of a handful of people just in my neighborhood that have taken up growing their own vegetables in their back yards just in the last year.  I’m also certain that we will be seeing more of that next spring as well. What are your thoughts on growing your own food supply? Is this just a knee jerk reaction to all the higher prices or are people really going to start growing their own food on a larger scale?

If a horticulture class seems too time consuming or would rather stay in and read a book, there is a lot of literature out there about home gardening. Here is a good book that I found that gives tips, advice and instructions on starting your own garden. If you want to grow fruits, vegetables or berries, this book will get you started.
