Thinking positively we are now less than two months away from spring time and one of the things that we are considering doing in our yard for the spring is adding a water garden. I was unaware when I started doing my search for information on water gardens that there would be so many variations and plans to consider. First of all we love the idea of a Koi pond but some Koi can run you a pretty penny so we may stick to goldfish for now as this is will be our first attempt at a water garden.
We have definitely decided on some sort of running water feature maybe even a small rock wall to create a water fall effect. Depending on how adventurous I am feeling come spring time. We are probably looking at about a water garden about the size of 50 sq. ft., I think that’s a pretty good size for what we want to accomplish. I hope! I have been reading a lot about how people seem to under estimate the size of their pond and don’t dig the hole big enough.
I think figuring out the size of the pond liner, the waterfall tank and the skimmer should be pretty basic based on the final size of the pond. Our biggest concern will be figuring out the right combination of water plants for our pond to keep the bacteria and algae levels in harmony. Especially since we would like to keep some gold fish in there. Looks like a lot of reading ahead of me in the next few weeks for information on water lilies and hard water lilies? Had no idea plus all the other water plant combinations that you can put into a water garden.
Hopefully sometime in April I will have another post to write regarding the successful adventure of our first water garden
